Welcome, all! Our blog is up and running and we have all settled, found our feet and sorted our thoughts. From now on you can look forward to daily updates about our unique journey here at the SABA International Butler Academy.

Today, after learning how to make beds and do turndown, we turned up the brain juices and sat for our terminology exam! Can you name five pierced dishes? Sosatie, Kebab, Espetada, Spiedini and Brochette. Hope I did well!

Thank you for reading my blog entry. Have an excellent day and do visit again.

What an amazing journey so far. We only started blogging now to give you, our readers(friends and family), a different insight into the wonderful world of the modern butler.
We had a magnificent time today at Fairview where we tasted various cheeses with the highlight being the delightful cream cheese made from goat’s milk. We also learned more about the art of Wine and Cheese pairing.
The day still wasn’t over because afterwards we went to the spice route and tasted decadent chocolates at the inspiring De Villiers chocolate makers.
An amazing time so far and so many more breathtaking days still to come.
    Have an excellent night…

Death by chocolate! I never knew that that saying had a literal origin. We learned today that as part of the harvesting process, the cacao pods are placed under banana leaves where they “die” and ferment before being dried and processed further to become chocolate.

And remember, seeing that cacao grows on a tree, why not think of chocolate as fruit? And fruit is healthy, right? So have another piece…

On that note, may you have sweet dreams and see you tomorrow for the next blog entry.

    Good evening dear friends.

After Sushi Sunday and recovering from Wasabi, it was a mushy Monday with lots of welcome rain. Felt like the Wasabi cleared the heavens above and everything came down.

In class we learned about the extra services we can offer as a Hotel Butler. Changing the weather was not one of them, however, maybe the Wasabi does really do some magic…

May you all have a tremendous Tuesday!
    Till the next time

We had a wet day at the Waterfront. The rain however did not spoil our mood as we visited the different luxury shops. The R50 I won with my lotto ticket unfortunately will not be enough for the R156000 Mount Blanc pen we were allowwd to admire.

What a pity that we could not see the yacht and jet today due to the rain. Let’s hope that we find another opportunity as I really would like to get to know that environment.

Tonight we all give our projects the final touches and Friday the practical exam is also on the agenda. Wish us luck!

And the shopping task for the bathroom was fun and challenging.

    Good evening friends and family,

We had an excellent day at the Waterfront Mall today, and enjoyed the beautiful rain. Today was all about interacting with luxury brands and understanding the needs of the clientele we will be serving.

The most amazing experience for me was touring Shimansky and learning about diamonds – another great South African story. I was delighted to find out about the largest diamonds discovered from my country Botswana; I certainly was beaming with pride.

Thank you to SABA for the opportunity.

We ended this wonderful week with learning about the different shapes of glasses, and the fact that much consideration is given on the type of wine or beverage to be served when designing those glasses. This means the shape of a glass can affect the tastes and feel of the wine if it is served in the wrong glass.

Tonight I leave you with an interesting question to ponder on: why do we as butlers iron newspapers?

Have a lovely weekend and see you in week 8 which is the final week of our course!! Thank you for reading my blog entry.
